2025 Annual Bromyard MAD Show

This year the show will be held on Saturday 5 th July at Broad Bridge and will be opened at 9.45am when the Goddess of the Wye will appear in the car park to lead all the local children on a walk around the showground then down the River Frome to its confluence with the River Wye where she will bless the waters.

Dominant in the middle of the large showground is a huge 100m x 100m map of NE Herefordshire. At the entrance is the city of Hereford with roads leading north to Leominster, north east via Bromyard to Worcester and East toward Ledbury and the Malverns. Why not start your journey by walking up the A49 past the recycling stand complete with a brand new electric collection vehicle, to the ‘Toward 2050’ pavilion which will be opened at 10.30 by the Mayor of Bromyard, Councillor Mark Franklin. (Please see more information about ‘Toward 2050 below.’)

Carry on north and you reach Queenswood where the Hereford Wildlife Trust stand will explain all about the work they do to encourage biodiversity and invite you to become Bromyard members within the Leominster Branch of HWT. Moving on the Climate Change theme resumes with the Keep Herefordshire Warm stand taking you through the opportunities to save energy at home before you find Octopus Energy explaining the savings to be made from Solar Panels generating your own electricity.

You are in the top corner of the showground now and looking east the energy saving theme continues with a display of no less than 12 new cars from Vauxhall, Renault, Daccia, Pergeot, Suzuki, Honda, Skoda and Kia all either fully electric or hybrid. Where else would you get the opportunity to fully explore and compare the latest technology in electric motoring?

This barrage of new motoring is broken at one point however when you stumble across the source of the River Frome. A tiny spring in a field near Thornbury but don’t be distracted, you have all day to explore the whole course of the river, following in the footsteps of the Goddess of the Wye before reaching Mordiford.

Next to the last car, in the far corner of the showground, is the CLAN stand where a selection of woodland skills are on display inviting all the family to try their hand, including examining Owl droppings to see what they had for tea!!

Moving on though the country atmosphere is broken as you reach the city of Worcester. You could have taken the direct route from Hereford via the A1079 or left Leominster and walked the whole length of the old railway checking out all the stations en route, including perhaps a stop at Bredenbury school to watch the infants playing Boccia, or pause in Bromyard at St. Peters for refreshments, before pulling in to Worcester Foregate Street.

Proceding south the next stage of your showground tour takes you to the Family Challenge where a call in to the Worcester Scout and Guide stand to collect your Challenge Scorecard is essential. Then you will find a number of stands giving you a chance to test your collective skills at adult Boccia, Crazy Croquet (just how smooth can a farmer’s field be?), Football, Cricket, Golf and the ultimate test – Archery. The challenge within the family will be as competitive as you want it to be but come together to find the clues to solve questions about features on the map.

These require you to move infield perhaps to leave the youngest ones at the Green Tree stand for some Wildplay or go next door to Kids Kitchen where they could make their own lunch! There will be many information posts about companies or local points of interest. More school and history stands in Bromyard. Walk the walk to match the clues. At 12.30 there will be a ‘Pub Quiz’ in Beyond 2050 where the family name from your scorecard can be entered into a prize draw.

Your journey back east to Hereford takes you past the most important features of the day. How you as a family can Make A Difference to local biodiversity. Stands dealing with Tree Wardens, ‘Bromyard Ring’ and ‘Bromyard on Frome’. These projects, a mixture of concepts for the future and an example of BromyardMADShow already working today, show CPRE and QE High School working together to monitor the quality of the River Frome. They deserve your close attention.

The map gives you the chance to learn more about your river and to check out the proposed route for the Bromyard Ring walk, but attend the ‘Question Time’ style discussion in the Toward 2050 pavilion to get best value from your day at the show.
